In many ways this blog might be better titled “A Fashion Tutorial: How to dress for winter , without looking as if you have no good sense at all, and or are an angry hatless teenager.”

For some reason every winter style board or blog features a ridiculously dressed woman. For example, apparently no socks are needed, crop tops are acceptable, as are off the shoulder situations.

Tips appear to be leave your coat open, walk around in only a large cardigan or wear ankle boots without socks. If I encountered such silliness on the city street I might think you are on pills.

Let me tell you. No skin should be exposed. Listen, you are a grown up lady. Dress sensibly so you do not acquire frost bite or some type of Victorian influenza. Having such ailments is not stylish.

As well, the truth is that you look silly without gloves or a hat or an open unzipped coat. Just stop. Might I add that you look foolish without a hat in 10 degree weather, much sillier than your hair might look once you get to work.
Nicknamed Nanuk by co-workers as I used to arrive at the office all bundled up –I walked to work –only 15 minutes but lots of wind, my retort was always “where you cold on your way to work?” and their answer was yes. I was not. I grew up in Canada, and my own parents were so proficient at dressing me that I was not cold. I once watched a video at school called “Cold Weather Safety.” I am not entirely sure why but this is the only thing that I remember from primary school.

Here are my tips

wool_pants @ beautejadoreThese are called pants: in the winter they should be full length. No crop pants, no thin leggings that are actually pantyhose, and or large holes in your pants. Got it? Good. If it’s really bad out, Canadians wear tights under the pants, or thin thermals, and than socks.

These are socks.

If I see you on the street without socks in the winter I am going to hope you step in a pile of snow. Besos.

These are mitts & gloves, for your hands….

You do not need to text outside in a snow storm.

A very cold weather coat should have the following qualities:

– a hood that stays up in the wind, e.g has a button closure/ snap, covers your neck entirely, is lined with warm material, is water resistant, and reaches at least mid thigh. High alert, your thighs get super cold and numb.

Also these are snow boots.

Notice they do not have high heels. No need to be running about in high heels in the ice. You do not need to fall down. Really. You can knock out your teeth. Enough said.

If you see a Canadian or Russian messing around in crop pants in December do not take this to mean you can during your winter months. You just look a few pennies short of a brain. Sorry, you just can’t. 30 degrees is not cold for them. But believe me they know winter for the cruel queen she is and respect the winter dress.

Wolves and Women have much in common. Both share a wild spirit.Women and Wolves are instinctual creatures, able to sense the unseen. They are loyal, protective of their packs and of their pups. They are wild and beautiful. Both have been hunted and captured. Even in captivity, one can see in the eyes of a Woman, or a Wolf, the longing to run free, and the determination that should the opportunity arise, Whoosh, they will be gone…..[Women who run with the Wolves] Clarissa Pinkola Estés
